Since 2003 I’ve worked with children. My work began as a teaching assistant at Parkside school in Norwich, working alongside children with special educational needs. Whilst working at the school part-time, I completed my counselling qualifications and became Parkside’s school counsellor in 2007. I also had the privilege of counselling at The Hall school in Norwich and City College Norwich.
There’s a variety of reasons as to why you maybe seeking counselling for your child. Often I work with children who experience anxiety and low mood, whether it be because they’re struggling with friendships, issues relating to bullying, exam stress, self-harm or generally finding day to day life challenging. There are so many reasons your child maybe feeling overwhelmed. Counselling offers a safe space and time to explore any difficulties you’re child maybe facing to enable them to find strategies and an inner resilience they perhaps didn’t even know was there. It’s an opportunity to find themselves, their voice and to believe in their own ability.
Counselling is confidential although there are times when for the child’s best interests it’s important to share information to ensure the safety and well-being of the child. This would always be discussed with the child first.
It’s also important for the parent to get a general understanding of how sessions are progressing so whilst being mindful of confidentiality I am always happy to discuss any worries or concerns you as a parent maybe having.
Sessions are not time limited. Some clients have weekly sessions, others fortnightly or monthly. It really depends on what feels right for you.
Counselling sessions are 1 hour and cost £50 per session. Home visit prices vary depending on where you live but start at a cost of £55.
I have full indemnity cover and an enhanced DBS (2023).
I follow BACP’s code of ethics for working with children and young people.
